Big Future Group
As a final note on our Metropolis Magazine profile of Sharon Davis, we are happy to introduce Big Future Group, a brand new, 501(c)(3)-pending nonprofit design organization, featured in our Architizer Top 10 Design Initiatives to Watch. The group “arose from the collective notion of its founders that, around the world, strong communities can thrive with the help of purposeful, meaningful, built infrastructure.” It is the brainchild of Davis, landscape architect Julie Farris of Brooklyn-based XS Space, environmental engineer Eric Rothstein of eDesign Dynamics, and structural engineer Arun Rimal of the Office of Structural Design. Rounding off our Metropolis Magazine article:
Looking ahead, Davis, Farris, Rothstein, and Rimal have joined forces to launch a nonprofit entity, Big Future Group, inspired by their collective pro bono work with Women for Women in Rwanda. Their goal: to employ what they call a “human-centered and need-centered design approach” to improve the “mental, physical, and moral wellbeing” of communities in the developing world. The Women for Women center in Rwanda, scheduled for completion in June, is a brave, convincing first step.
